Nanine Linning created a dark mythic world for Gauthier Dance, based on the Black Paintings and then specifically Saturn Devouring His Son from painter Goya. In this painting on according to traditional interpretation, it depicts the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus, who, fearing that he would be overthrown by one of his children, ate each one upon their birth.
“In the semidarkness move in slow motion five gender-neutral beings in robes with black scales, their faces hidden behind semitransparent fight masks. These creatures surround around three half naked figures that are exhibited on pedestals like Homunculus in invisible tanks who seem to float. Like a scene from a thriller Nanine Linning developed her nightmarish story and creates through the judicious use of light and shade an ominous atmosphere.” Stuttgarter Zeitung
